As we spend more time outdoors during summer, it is important to consider sun safety and recognize that prolonged exposure to the sun, despite all its benefits, can have counterintuitive effects.Before we start with how we can protect ourselves, let us explore the many benefits of brief daily exposure to sunlight, along with the risks of prolonged exposure.  A Generous Source of Vitamin D Also known as the “sunshine vitamin”, vitamin D is both a nutrient found in food and a hormone our body produces. However, relying solely on food sources may not be enough for everyone. Regular midday sunlight exposure of 10-30 minutes several times per week helps maintain healthy Vitamin D levels. This timeframe is a general recommendation.
